TikTok is expected to shut down in the U.S. tomorrow.
We don't know if it will be enforced even though the law remains in place, but TikTok has stated it will go dark. We also are hearing there may be a 90-day period where the new administration can sort it out.
I don't know what's going to happen.
While I’ve had my gripes with TikTok—its impact on attention spans and how TikTok Shop ruined the experience—it’s impossible to ignore how deeply this app has shaped my life.
Taking a moment to reflect, here's a few areas TikTok has completely changed my life.
Freedom to create.
TikTok offered me a platform where I could experiment with creative concepts and bring ideas to life. Everything I do now, was merely a dream. Something I felt out of reach or would be a "one day" goal.
Tens of millions of people reached, with over 875K followers on TikTok alone and well over million across social platforms.
I posted some videos that were deeply expressive at a dark time and this turned into something great. Not just the reach, but the impact I saw in the comments and DM's.
People don't know this, but I also run another account @lyssyeckel. We have grown that account to over 160K followers interviewing elder members of agriculture. It has meant a lot to me and the families.
I met my fiancé and made great friends.
The app wasn’t just a creative outlet—it was a connection machine. Through TikTok, I met my fiancé. I still laugh when people ask how we met.
I also made friends who’ve become collaborators, mentors, and sources of endless inspiration.
A treasure trove of knowledge: investing, health, news, and more.
TikTok wasn’t just about creating—it was about learning. From finance tips to health advice, and even breaking news, the platform became an unexpected teacher.
In so many ways, TikTok has changed my life in some of the most significant categories.
I don’t think it’s going away for good and I will try to post for those outside the US (most my audience).
In case it does disappear, I wanted to acknowledge what it has provided me.
