Bringing down bright days

☕️ Hanging out on a river with a clear sky?

For the most part, I will only film on an overcast day. Moody days just hit different.

Lighting will give your video an immediate look or feel, but that can be modified with color grading. All this means that whatever presets or LUTs you add to your footage is more than likely not going to work with your scene unless they were made specifically for your workflow.

This is why I have a couple of different LUTs that work better for bright days.

The three we are going to look at today are:

  • Heavy
    • Built for LOG footage, this will add a more intense correction.
  • Moro
    • Strong emphasis on highlights and will slightly flatten the image. It works really well with Heavy.
  • Decaf
    • A desaturating look that can bring a moodier look to very vibrant days. This is useful when you want to convey a feeling from a memory or similar experience.
